Transiliac bone biopsy
The iliac crest is the standard site to perform bone biopsies for metabolic studies. Readily accessible, this bone presents rapid remodeling and contains cortical and trabecular tissue in the same proportion as in the rest of the skeleton. Transiliac bone sample is obtained using a trephine (originally known as a Bordier trephine) with a diameter of 6-8 mm and serrated edge. An electric drill has been added to classical models for the perforation of bone.
